In 1887 some enthusiasts raced their penny-farthings for three miles around the grass of the MCG – little did they know what they would begin. This summer the Austral Wheelrace celebrates its 112th running – making it the oldest, continuous bicycle race in the world!

This season also marks the third running of a new tradition – the Junior Austral Wheelrace hits the boards at Hisense Arena on the morning of its better-known senior counterpart. Some of Australia’s finest young cyclists will compete to have their name etched on what is destined to become a prestigious junior trophy. Those who get through to the final will race in front of a full house as part of the Revolution 5 evening program.
